Traditional British cooking, with a twist

We back British farmers and award-winning artisan producers, and cook with the finest seasonal ingredients, often from just down the lane.
Booking is recommended, especially at weekends and for Sunday lunch, when the roast comes with all the trimmings.

Where to eat

Bar, dining rooms or terrace

The long dining room, candles lit along tables of green velvet chairs and a striped banquette

Seats up to 30

The dining rooms

The lower room has all the theatre of the kitchen at work: soft yellow and teal, settle seats and snaffle straps, and work by local artists on the walls. The second room is light and airy, looking onto the garden terrace.

The oak-panelled bar room with a lit log burner, tables laid for lunch and a small dog on the rug

Fire lit in winter

The bar

Oak panelling, flagstones, sofas and cricket tables round a roaring fire. A local ale, a homemade bar snack, a dog at your heel, or our favourite table in the window.

Wooden picnic tables on the front terrace, looking across the lane to the village green, bicycles leant against the wall

Summer

The garden terrace

A rose and jasmine scented sun trap for a cold glass of rosé, a pint and long lunches outside. Call us about booking the terrace.

Dogs welcome

Four legs by the fire

Dogs are welcome in the bar and on the terrace, with water bowls by the door and a biscuit behind the bar. Muddy boots too.
